1.About social radio network
social networking represents a large opportunity for terrestrial radio stations to gain relevance and currency online. Someone suggests two ways in which social networking could enhance traditional radio:
- Enable people to connect with others and show that they belong to a certain tribe represented by the music and bands they follow.
- Help listeners discover new music (a function where music-based social networks, such as Last.fm, have shown the way).
2. BlogTalkRadio —A examples
BlogTalkRadio is the social Internet Radio network that allows users to connect quickly and directly with their audience. Using an ordinary telephone and computer hosts can create free, live, call-in talk shows with unlimited participants that are automatically archived and made available as podcasts. No software download is required. Online Radio Listeners can subscribe to shows via RSS into iTunes and other feed readers.BlogTalkRadio allows anyone, anywhere the ability to host a live, Internet Talk Radio show, simply by using a telephone and a computer.
3.What can we learn
In some ways, the idea of adding social networking to traditional radio seems a no brainer. Since social networking software is now a commodity, the cost and therefore risk, is pretty low. However, the toughest element to going social’ is building community, but I think this is where a radio station with an established listener base has a great starting point.
